Lake Marion and Lake Moultrie vary from shallow swamp flats and black water ponds to large expanses of open water loaded with underwater structure. The lakes total 170,000 acres, have a maximum depth of 50 feet and are joined by a diversion canal. This area, known as "Santee Cooper Country", has produced numerous state records for several species.
